The Mokorua Bush Scenic Reserve is a fine example of the self-healing powers of New Zealand's native forests. Most of the area was originally cleared for farming between 1910 and 1920. In 1969 it was declared a scenic reserve, and it now has a high canopy of native trees and is home to many native birds.
Please respect the many taonga, or treasures, you will encounter and help us to ensure they endure for the benefit of future generations. To protect the wildlife, including kiwi, dogs are not permitted on the track.

This is part of the BirdWalk which is a small part of the Toi Trail, a local and very challenging competition track. It is wonderful, beautiful but very difficult in parts. Definitely would not be safe to attempt alone as parts of it are very narrow with drop offs and other parts are rather steep. I loved it.
We started at the Whitehorse Rd entrance of the Birdwalk and got in about a kilometre.
A flight of steps stopped us. Many of the trampers we met appeared rather surprised to see us on the track and were very impressed with the chair😀
