Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What size chair do I need?

We have a short wheelbase (SWB) and long wheelbase option (LWB)

  1. Short wheelbase is used for people less than 175cm (5’10”) tall

  2. Long wheelbase is used for people up to 193cm (6’4”) tall.  The double thickness seat cushion is often used for taller people

The width (as measured across the seat cushion) can be 14” (36cm), 16” (41cm), 18” (46cm) or 20” (51cm).

The standard frame suits occupants up to 100 kg (220lb), however a slightly stronger frame is used for occupants up to 150k (330lb).

What sort of terrain can it go over?

The ViMo can be pushed or driven over river beds, bush tracks, hard packed sand and mud (so long as it isn’t too deep). For steep terrain the front and rear anti-tipping bars and seat belts are recommended. Provided the powered ViMo can get traction it can be driven up slopes of up to 15 degrees (a gradient of 1 in 4).

Where can I see one and try it?

We sell directly from the factory so there are no distributors or retail outlets.  However many users of the ViMo’s are happy to demonstrate them and tell you of their experiences.  Contact us for the nearest ViMo customer and we will arrange a visit.

Can I hire a chair to trial it?

Yes. We loan ViMo’s to potential customers for a week to ensure they are happy with the product and can take them on an adventure to see how easy to push and capable they are. The only cost associated with this is the courier charges to and from your location.

ViMo products are available for hire, perfect for getting away on holiday or simply wanting to try out some local bush walks.

  • Prices starting from $100 per week

  • Ideal for trialing before purchasing your own

  • Additional courier charges apply

Is it possible to customise the chair to suit my needs?

Yes, there are a range upholstery colours and frame colours, plus a good range accessories available such as seat belts, headrests, lift-up armrests, lateral supports.  Refer to the price list to see these options or contact us for individual requirements.

Can it easily break down in order to fit in a small car?

Yes it can. We have detailed the size of each wheelchair below.

  • Short wheelbase version fits in a box 82 cm (32”) long x 64cm (25”) high x 33cm (13”) wide

  • Long wheelbase version fits in a box 92 cm (36”)long x 64cm (25”) high x 33cm (13”) wide

  • Powered short wheelbase version fits in a box 82 cm (32”) long x 64cm (25”) high x 45cm (18”) wide

  • Powered long wheelbase version fits in a box 92 cm (36”) long  x 64cm (25”) high x 45cm (18”) wide

All the wheels can be removed in seconds making it even lighter and more compact.
The transit chairs are small enough to sit in the boot of a Suzuki Swift without removing any parts of the wheelchair.

Why are there two large front tyres on some of the models?

Dual front tyres increase traction and reduce the need to change tyres for a puncture, so you can travel further taking in the surroundings.

What would suit me better, an attendant propelled or a powered chair?

This is dependent on the capabilities of the wheelchair occupant and the caregiver.

The attendant propelled ViMo can not be propelled by the occupant, it requires someone to push it. The ViMo’s are significantly easier to push over rough ground than conventional wheelchairs

If pushing is difficult then the powered kit can be added and controlled by either the occupant or the caregiver via a joystick controller

What is the hole in the backrest for?

When folded the carry handle protrudes through this hole and enables the ViMo to be carried like a suitcase.
